Day 2. New York City

Start your day with a fun-filled breakfast at the famous Ellen’s Stardust Diner, a 50s-themed restaurant featuring a singing wait staff. Then we embrace the festive spirit and lively energy of this fascinating city on a locally guided tour of the “Big Apple.” You’ll see Greenwich Village, the Wall Street district, Little Italy, Chinatown, the Empire State Building, Central Park, Chelsea Market and other time-honoured landmarks. Visit St. Paul’s Chapel in lower Manhattan, a place where George Washington once worshipped and where recovery workers came to rest and care during their time at the World Trade Centre site. Tonight, it’s Diner’s Choice…your dinner is included and you’ll choose the perfect spot from a “menu” of the city’s popular locations in exhilarating Times Square. This evening’s highlight is Radio City Music Hall and the incredible Christmas Spectacular featuring the high-kicking Rockettes!

Day 4. New York City

This morning board a ferry and cruise past the Statue of Liberty. Since 1886, “Lady Liberty” has welcomed immigrants and visitors to New York Harbour. Created as a token of friendship between the U.S. and France, the Statue of Liberty has become a global symbol of freedom. Enjoy some free time to discover “the city that never sleeps” at your own pace. Your Tour Manager will have plenty of suggestions for great ways to spend your time. Maybe you’d enjoy a spree at some of the world’s most famous department stores including Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Saks Fifth Avenue. This evening say farewell to this extraordinary city as we enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Then we venture out to exhilarating Times Square to take our seats for an included Broadway show! Day 2. Albuquerque

Today is sure to be one of the highlights of your trip…Albuquerque’s International Balloon Fiesta. Join in the excitement of this annual hot air ballooning extravaganza. This is your chance to experience in person one of the world’s most photographed events. Watch as the balloons launch in two remarkable waves. It’s one of the most spectacular displays of sound and colour in all of aviation. After an early morning, we enjoy some time to relax because later this afternoon we set out on a tour of Old Town Albuquerque and the surrounding area. Savour the unique fusion of Mexican, Native American and Spanish heritages. Embark on a bucket-list ride along the eclectic Route 66. Take some time in Old Town to explore the wonderful shops and restaurants.

Day 3. Albuquerque

Since before the Cold War, New Mexico has been known as a hub for covert military projects. Today, this fascinating history unfolds at the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History, where a docent takes you on an intriguing journey that includes details of the Manhattan Project. Next, visit the gateway of the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Centre. See the ever-changing galleries that highlight local and national Native American artists. With a focus on Pueblo artists, the centre strives to preserve their culture. Later, experience the grandeur of the Balloon Fiesta by moonlight. There will be plenty of time to stroll the grounds and perhaps pick up a memorable Balloon Fiesta souvenir and grab a bite to eat.

Day 4. Albuquerque – Santa Fe

Today, we set out for Santa Fe, travelling along the historic Turquoise Trail. Prehistoric peoples made their homes here, Spanish missionaries explored the area and many battles were fought over this land. You will appreciate the stunning views and a stop in the quaint old coal mining town of Madrid. Once in Santa Fe, a local guide joins the group as we tour the renowned Santa Fe Plaza and the surrounding city. After your tour, make sure you visit the Loretto Chapel. Delve into the intriguing story behind its construction and wonder at its famous million-dollar staircase. Enjoy time to discover the many shops and numerous art museums that Santa Fe is known for.

Day 5. Santa Fe

Today is yours to explore Santa Fe independently. There’s so much to see and do in this southwestern city. You may choose to visit a museum or art studio or perhaps join an optional excursion. A special treat awaits at the Santa Fe School of Cooking. It’s your favourite cooking show come to life as you watch an expert chef create a delicious meal before your eyes. Everything is made with a south-west theme and is simply delightful.

Day 2. Jackson Hole

This morning the choice is yours. Enjoy either a relaxing wildlife float trip or an exciting white water rafting adventure! Both paths take you along the Snake River and offer up dramatic views of a grand landscape complete with a picnic lunch. The rest of the afternoon is yours to experience all that Jackson Hole has to offer.

Day 3. Jackson Hole – Grand Tetons – Yellowstone

Wind through Grand Teton National Park, home to the youngest peaks in the Rockies. Keep your camera ready. There are plenty of opportunities to take photos. Next, visit incomparable Yellowstone National Park, the first and oldest national park in the world. Yellowstone, a true symbol of the west, stretches across 3,470 square miles and touches three western states. Famous for its geysers, hot springs and incredible wildlife – including free-ranging herds of buffalo – Yellowstone lives up to its reputation. A park guide joins your group to discuss the past, present and future of the park as you observe the unspoiled natural splendour. Of course, no visit to Yellowstone would be complete without seeing its most famous attraction: Old Faithful. Watch in amazement as the geyser erupts, sending a fountain of steam more than 90 feet in the air!

Day 4. Yellowstone – Cody – Sheridan

Begin your day with a journey along Lake Yellowstone and over Sylvan Pass. From the mountains to the prairies, the scenery is simply astounding. Pass through Cody and visit the Buffalo Bill Centre of the West – a tribute to one of the most colourful figures of the Old West. Before turning in for the night in Sheridan, make your way through the incredible Bighorn Mountains and cross through the territory of the Great Sioux Nation.

Day 5. Sheridan – Deadwood – Rapid City, South Dakota

En route to Rapid City, stop in Deadwood, a rowdy, rambling western town that has been named a National Historic Landmark. Recreations of turn-of-the-century street lamps light the way through the restored architecture. A local guide introduces you to the history of the city, including a visit to Mount Moriah Cemetery, final resting place of Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane and other figures from the Wild West. You’ll also make a stop at Kevin Costner’s Tatanka: “Story of the Bison.” This interpretive centre features large, awe-inspiring sculptures depicting the relationship of bison and the Lakota Native Americans. Enjoy some time to ramble through Deadwood where gold, gambling and gunpowder were once the order of the day. Later, return to Rapid City to enjoy leisure time for independent exploration.

Day 6. Rapid City – Crazy Horse – Keystone – Rapid City

Today, learn more about this diverse region. Jump into the world of Black Hills gold on a tour through Riddle’s Black Hills Gold and Diamond Factory. See skilled artisans hand craft South Dakota’s official state jewellery. Then it is on to Custer State Park where you’ll hop on an off-road vehicle to travel deep into the park. A herd of approximately 1,300 free roaming buffalo (or bison) grace the woods of Custer along with pronghorn antelope and elk. Your guide will fill you in on the history and fun facts about the park’s wildlife. Next, prepare to be amazed by the Crazy Horse Memorial, the world’s largest mountain sculpture still in progress. The memorial includes the Indian Museum of North America, Native American Cultural Centre, the sculptor’s studio, an orientation centre and theatres. Many Native American artists and craftspeople practice their art at the memorial and are on hand to discuss the influence their culture has on their work. Make a stop in the Old West town of Keystone to have dinner on your own before stopping to see the illumination of Mt. Rushmore, one of the true icons of the West, during a sound and light show.

Day 7. Rapid City – Badlands – Wall – Rapid City

Today you visit rugged Badlands National Park. Upon arrival at the visitor centre, view its informative exhibits and displays and watch a film that introduces you to the area. Follow the Badlands Loop Road, a wonder of rock formations and vibrant colours caused by mineral deposits. Next, enjoy a stop at Wall Drug, a classic store from 1936, where there is time for lunch and browsing. This evening, a Lakota Native American will join you before your farewell dinner to discuss his dedication to his community and the Native American way of life, past and present.

Journey to the “Music Capital of the World” – Nashville. En route, stop in the charming city of Chattanooga. Enjoy free time for lunch and exploration before continuing on to Nashville for a relaxing three night stay. Tonight, get to know your fellow travellers at your welcome dinner at the famous Wildhorse Saloon, home of a 3,300 square foot dance floor that is used every night of the week by dancers and revellers.

Day 3. Nashville

Today, get acquainted with America’s capital of country music. Begin by discovering the famous Old Ryman Auditorium*; then take in Broadway and 2nd Avenue, home to Nashville’s music bars. Head to Music Row and see the recording studios and publishing houses of the music industry. Continue on to the Parthenon, a replica of the original in Greece. Enjoy some free time before an evening visit to the world’s longest running radio show, the Grand Ole Opry. It has been delighting audiences for more than 85 years! This is a chance to watch the show being performed as it’s broadcast live on both radio and television. After the show, get a behind-the-scenes look at the music during a backstage tour of the Opry** – discover the history and learn about the operation of the show during a talk with the Grand Ole Opry staff.

Day 4. Nashville

Take a fascinating journey through the history of country music. Experience the magic, the stories, and the music on a guided tour through the world-famous RCA Studio B in the heart of Music Row. Although Elvis lived in Memphis, many of his recordings were made here in Nashville at this studio. Have the chance to record your own hit! Next, experience music’s past and present at the state-of-the-art Country Music Hall of Fame, the largest museum of popular music in the world. Explore its interactive exhibits and tear-stained lyric sheets, an absolute must for all music fans. Learn about the Hatch Show Print, the original printer of the concert flyer for famous country musicians and have the opportunity to see how they are still printed today.

Day 5. Nashville – Memphis
Travel to Memphis, the birthplace of the Blues, Rock ‘n’ Roll and Soul. Get to know the city on a one-of-a-kind tour. Local musicians board the coach and tell the story of Memphis’ musical heritage and history as you view the city’s many highlights. You may even be tempted to sing along! Tonight, enjoy dinner at a popular local barbecue to savour the local flavour. Later, with some leisure time, you may immerse yourself in the city’s energetic music scene on world-famous Beale Street. Day 6. Memphis

Day 7. Memphis – Jackson, Mississippi – Natchez

We leave Memphis today for the state of Mississippi. Our first visit is Jackson, the state capital. Enjoy free time for lunch before heading to the traditional southern town of Natchez, which feels like it has stopped in time. This evening, get a taste of historic plantation life when you dine at a local, privately-owned antebellum plantation home.

Day 8. Natchez

Natchez was largely spared from the destruction of the Civil War, so it’s a fantastic example of how life was in the pre-Civil War Deep South. We’ll see some of the town’s most beautiful historic buildings, including elegant southern mansions, churches and public buildings. The rest of the day is free for you to wander around this charming town.

Day 9. Natchez – Baton Rouge, Louisiana – Lafayette

This morning travel to Baton Rouge, the capital of Louisiana. Set out on a guided tour of the Louisiana State Capitol Building and learn about the state’s most influential political figure, Governor Huey Long. Hear the stories and legends from the time of his governorship and witness the location of his untimely assassination at the State House. Continue on to Lafayette, the heart of Cajun Country. Visit Martin Accordions, a family-owned accordion shop. Learn about this intricate craft and listen as the Martin-family band entertains you with music and stories.

Day 10. Cajun Country

Today, immerse yourself in the vibrant Cajun culture. Begin at the Acadian Cultural Centre at Jean Lafitte National Park for an introduction to the history and culture of Cajun Country. Next, visit Vermilionville, a 23-acre living history museum and folk life park showcasing the Cajun and Creole heritages. Later, cruise along the eerie bayous and through the Atchafalaya Basin — no trip to Cajun Country would be complete without seeing the swamp!

Day 11. Lafayette – New Orleans

The day begins with a visit to peaceful Avery Island, the birthplace of the famous McIlhenny’s Tabasco Pepper Sauce. Continue on to the “Jazz Capital of the World” — New Orleans — your home for the next three nights.

Day 12. French Quarter

Today, take a walking tour of the French Quarter. The steamy streets of New Orleans surround you with elegant villas with balconies of delicate iron lace. Stroll past the majestic St. Louis Cathedral, one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks. Continue on to the bustling French Marketplace and explore Pirates Alley, the Cabildo, the Presbytere and the Pontalba. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure to independently discover the “Big Easy.”

Day 13. New Orleans

This morning, enjoy a panoramic tour of New Orleans with a local guide. Begin along historic Esplanade Avenue. See St. Louis Cemetery #3, which opened in 1854 and holds some of the most elaborate crypts found in the city’s cemeteries. Then, relax during a drive along the shoreline of Lake Pontchartrain. This romantic road eventually leads to St. Charles Avenue, whisking you past gorgeous mansions as well as Tulane and Loyola, two world-famous universities. Return to the French Quarter this afternoon and have time at leisure. Tonight, enjoy an elegant dinner at the Court of Two Sisters, one of New Orleans’ most renowned restaurants.

Day 2. Scottsdale

Day 3. Scottsdale – Sedona – Grand Canyony

Sit back and enjoy the drive from Scottsdale to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Watch as the diverse terrain reveals itself at every turn. Stop along the way in the stunning town of Sedona where you are surrounded by the most incredible rust-red clay cliffs. Day 6. Las Vegas – Anaheim, California

Your drive begins along the fringes of the unusual Mojave National Preserve and continues through the mountainous San Bernardino Valley to the Los Angeles area, your first stop in the fabulous state of California.

Day 7. Anaheim – Los Angeles – Anaheim

Get acquainted with Los Angeles on a wonderful tour led by a local expert. Make stops at the iconic walk of fame in Hollywood; the TLC (formerly Grauman’s) Chinese Theatre; and the Kodak Theatre, where the Oscars are held. Spend time browsing at The Farmer’s Market. Have time on your own to sample the farm fresh fare and do some shopping. Keep your eyes open for movie stars as they are frequently spotted milling about. The afternoon is free to further explore Hollywood on your own.

Day 8. Los Angeles – Santa Barbara

A very short drive takes you to Santa Barbara, nicknamed “The American Riviera.” Boasting a spectacular coastline, Santa Barbara is home to many of the rich and famous. You will hear stories about Santa Barbara’s history and the stars that reside here as you embark on a lovely day filled with local sightseeing.

Day 9. Santa Barbara – San Simeon – Monterey

Discover the dramatic California scenery as you head up the Big Sur coastline, flanked by the Santa Lucia Mountains and Pacific Ocean…it will surely take your breath away. This afternoon, arrive in San Simeon and visit Hearst Castle, built by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. Tour the estate which Hearst simply called “the ranch” and explore some of its 165 rooms and 127 acres of gardens, terraces, pools and walkways. Later today, arrive in Monterey, famous for its breathtaking setting.

Day 10. Monterey

Drive along Monterey’s 17-Mile Drive, one of the most breathtaking coastlines in the world. Make a stop in Carmel, known for its natural scenery and rich artistic history. Clint Eastwood and Sonny Bono both held the office of mayor in Carmel. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy Monterey and the lively Cannery Row filled with unique shops and restaurants.

Day 11. Monterey – Yosemite – San Francisco

Journey to one of the oldest and most spectacular national parks in the United States, Yosemite. Established as a national park in 1864 by Abraham Lincoln, the park is famous for incredible granite cliffs and is now visited by almost 4 million people per year. Explore the park on a tram ride that takes you along the floor of Yosemite. Look up at the magnificent formations while a local expert gives a narration of the history and geology of this internationally famous park. Later, arrive in San Francisco, one of the most fascinating cities in the world.

Day 12. San Francisco

After breakfast, a local guide will take you on a sightseeing tour of the city. Hear stories of the city’s past and present as you drive past its famous landmarks including the Twin Peaks, Seal Rocks and the Golden Gate Bridge. Your afternoon is at leisure to explore the shops at either Fisherman’s Wharf or Union Square. Perhaps you’ll take a ride up and down the city’s thrilling hills on a classic cable car.
