Day 1. Calgary, Alberta – Tour Begins
Get ready for an adventure that brings together the beautiful expanse of the prairies, the soaring majesty of the Canadian Rockies and the brilliance of Montana’s Glacier National Park. Your tour opens in the province of Alberta.

Day 2. Calgary – Waterton Lakes National Park

This morning, journey south to the prairie lands while enjoying the distant views of the spectacular Rockies. Visit Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, one of the world’s oldest and best preserved buffalo jumps, and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Head-Smashed-In, in the foothills of the Rockies, has been used continuously by Aboriginal people for over 5,500 years. Continue travelling south to Waterton Lakes National Park. En route, pass through quaint villages and travel along roads sometimes traversed by grizzly bears, black bears, mountain goats, cougars, wolves, moose and elk. Arrive at the Prince of Wales Hotel, a National Historic Site of Canada. Enjoy some leisure time to explore the grounds and capture some photographs to show your friends back home. Tonight, enjoy dinner overlooking Waterton Lake.

Day 3. Waterton Lakes-Glacier National Park, Montana, USA-Waterton Lakes, AB

Today we experience Glacier National Park. A naturalist’s paradise, Glacier preserves over one million acres of forests, Alpine meadows and lakes, and is home to over 70 species of mammals and 270 species of birds. Enjoy a ride aboard one of its famous Jammer cars – built in the 1930’s – over one of the most breathtaking roads in North America. “Going to the Sun Road”* stretches across the Continental Divide and offers incredible views of the valley and Glacier National Park.

Day 4. Waterton Lakes National Park – Banff, Alberta

This morning, relax during your journey to Banff and soak in a backdrop of wonderful wildlife and the majestic Canadian Rockies. Arrive at the grand Fairmont Banff Springs, known as the “Castle in the Rockies,” for a luxurious three-night stay. Tonight it’s Diner’s Choice…your dinner is included and you’ll choose the perfect spot from a “menu” of the Fairmont Banff Springs’ great restaurants.

Day 5. Banff

This morning, enjoy a sightseeing tour of the Banff area including stops at the lovely Bow Falls and the fascinating Hoodoos, also known as the “Land of Sleeping Giants.” Next, visit a local ammolite specialist and learn about this rare gemstone that is found only in Alberta. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Perhaps you will choose to browse through the shops and museums or just take in the natural beauty of the area.

Day 6. Icefields Parkway – Choice of Glacier Experience or Glacier Skywalk

A wonderful day of sightseeing awaits as we set out along the unforgettable Icefields Parkway and behold lofty waterfalls, rushing rivers, glacial peaks, imposing cliffs and snowcapped mountain ranges. Stop at the Columbia Icefield and choose a fun ride** across this mass of glacial ice which is over 1,000 feet thick – the largest accumulation of ice south of the Arctic Circle; or, take a walk on the Glacier Skywalk to experience the breathtaking views of the Sunwapta Valley and witness the dramatic landscape from the glass-floored platform. This afternoon, stop at stunning Peyto Lake, a turquoise glacier-fed lake that evokes pure serenity. Be on the lookout for bears and stately elk on your return to Banff. Join your fellow travellers this evening at a farewell dinner where you will toast the end of a wonderful trip.

Day 2. Vancouver – VIA Rail

A city tour of Vancouver begins this morning at beautiful Stanley Park, Canada’s renowned urban rainforest, and continues to Chinatown, the waterfront, and Gastown, a turn-of-the-century centre comprised of pubs, art galleries, boutiques and the world-famous steam-powered clock, perhaps the most photographed subject in all of Vancouver. Stroll picturesque Granville Island and its fascinating markets. This evening, enjoy dinner overlooking the city skyline. Later, board VIA Rail’s The Canadian to begin your journey to the majestic Canadian Rockies. Relive train travel in the days of old as you are rocked to sleep tonight in your private accommodation.

Day 3. VIA Rail – Jasper, Alberta

Enjoy a lovely hot breakfast in the dining car as your eastbound train whisks you past the peaks of the Monashee Mountains and the stunning sight of Pyramid Falls cascading down Mt. Cheadle. Relax in the Dome car as you experience 360-degree views of the glistening glaciers of the Albreda Icefields and on a clear day, view Mt. Robson – the highest peak of the Rockies! Day 4. Jasper

This morning we travel to Maligne Lake and enjoy breakfast* against the backdrop of the picture-perfect sparkling waters of Maligne Lake, the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rockies. Whilst there you may choose to embark on an optional cruise highlighting the beauty of Spirit Island. Later, enjoy the dramatic Maligne Canyon, one of the area’s most spectacular landmarks. Day 1. Gamboa, Panama – Tour Begins
Welcome to Panama, a country of lush rainforests, rich history, diverse wildlife and spectacular coastlines. Your tour opens at the Gamboa Rainforest Resort where you’ll enjoy your private balcony and hammock overlooking the beautiful surroundings. During your leisure time, feel free to use the complimentary bikes or kayaks to explore.

Day 2. Gamboa – Emberá Village – Gamboa

Meet your fellow travellers during a welcome breakfast. Your guide then leads you on a nature walk through the resort’s jungle forest and gardens for a chance to spot unique birds as well as various flora and fauna. Set off on an excursion to an Emberá indigenous village. Board dugout canoes for a scenic ride up the Chagres River to a settlement of Emberá, the “Keepers of the Rainforest.” The Emberá strive to preserve their heritage and love to share their traditional techniques of home building and handicrafts – such as basket weaving and tagua nut carving – with visitors. Join in their dances and partake in a simple lunch cooked traditionally. The remainder of your day is free to enjoy Gamboa Rainforest Resort.

Day 3. Gamboa – Panama Canal Cruise – Panama City – Gamboa

Start the day off with an incredible highlight. Board the Pacific Queen for a partial transit cruise through the Panama Canal. Enjoy lunch onboard and pass through two locks as you revel in a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see this incredible engineering feat first-hand. Learn all about its construction and operation from your onboard guides. Disembark at Flamenco Marina in Panama City. Visit the Mercado de Mariscos, a seafood market, and try fresh Panamanian ceviche. Continue to Casco Viejo, the Old Quarter. It’s your choice on how you will visit this UNESCO World Heritage site, which was settled in 1673. Perhaps you’ll follow your guide for a short walking tour down its cobblestone streets showcasing the Plaza de la Independencia, the Presidential Palace, the National Theatre, plus restored colonial churches and monuments. For a more immersive experience you may journey through this same neighbourhood with a local resident…hear the story of the Casco Viejo’s comeback from a member of the community who will take you through the place he calls home, highlighting the incredible revitalization of this historic area and its people.

Day 4. Gamboa – Anton Valley

Arrive at Miraflores Locks Visitor Centre to view the Panama Canal and learn about its rich past, present and future as you watch ships traverse the lock system. Drive a short distance on the famed Pan-American Highway before heading up the mountains to Anton Valley, a community nestled inside the second largest volcanic crater in the world. Meet the locals at the handicraft market and try your hand at negotiations, a local pastime of market-goers. You’ll get to peruse artisan souvenirs made by indigenous peoples, including the “mola” embroidery of the Kuna Yala. Afterwards, check in to your hotel at the base of the mountains that make up the crater.

Day 5. Anton Valley

Begin the day with a visit to the Museum El Valle which houses a small collection ranging from geological wonders to pre-Columbian art. Your next stop is a not-for-profit orchid nursery that dedicates itself to cultivating and conserving local and regional orchids. It houses over 100 different types. Continue to the El Valle Amphibian Conservation Centre, working to protect critically endangered species including the emblematic Panamanian Golden Frog, said to bring good luck to anyone who sees it. Your afternoon is free to continue exploring this charming mountain community.

Day 6. Anton Valley – Chitré

This morning, step into the heartland of Panama and become immersed in the culture as you visit a village of artists. Interact with makers of the famous Panama hat and see first-hand how these wearable works of art are created. Continue on to meet the famous cigar rollers of Panama, whose craft has become legendary within the cigar community. Next, visit an orange grove, one of the region’s main crops, and savour the taste of an orange fresh from the tree. Head north to Chitré, one of the first Spanish settlements in Panama, established in 1558. Get to know a traditional way of cooking at a clay oven bakery and sample these delectable sweets. After visiting a local pottery artist, it’s on to a sugarcane mill for a taste of sugarcane juice called “guarapa.” Next, pause to experience the region’s pre-Columbian and colonial times at the local museum. Tonight, get acquainted with the local culture at dinner featuring a folklore and dance show.

Day 7. Chitré

Spend the day meeting the locals in Chitré, the “folklore capital” of Panama. Meet Panamanian women who have dedicated their lives to making the handwoven pollera dress. Then it’s off to spend time with a famous local artist whose whimsical masks are used in traditional Panamanian parades. Your day continues with a visit to one of Panama’s famous rum producers. Visit the historic hacienda to discover the life of the founder, a Spanish immigrant who brought jobs and prestige to the region with the development of the distillery. Learn the art of making rum, as well as the local drink “seco,” also distilled from sugarcane. If you like, you may take an ox-cart ride through the sugarcane fields. Enjoy a typical lunch, then finally sample the product for yourself during a tasting session and discussion in the bodega. The rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy at your hotel. Tonight, you have the option of experiencing an authentic home-hosted meal in a local family’s house; take this opportunity to learn about their lives, culture and food.

Day 1. San Jose, Costa Rica – Tour Begins

Day 2. San Jose – Doka Coffee Estate – Guanacaste

Journey through the lush countryside of the Central Valley to the fertile region world-renowned for its coffee. A tour of the Doka Coffee Estate highlights the history and cultivation of coffee and its importance to the Costa Rican economy. This afternoon, arrive in the Guanacaste region, known for its breathtaking beauty and fine sandy beaches. Here, rest and relaxation go hand-in-hand with mesmerizing ocean views and lush tropical greenery. Settle in for a relaxing 2-night stay at your resort.

Day 4. Guanacaste – Monteverde

You won’t believe your eyes as you travel into the secluded Monteverde Cloud Forest, where trees grow to heights of 100 feet! Upon arrival in Monteverde, take a nature walk through this spectacular ecosystem and encounter many incredible species of flora and fauna up-close. This forest is the home of the world’s largest population of the endangered quetzal, celebrated for its gorgeous jewel-toned plumage. Keep your eyes peeled and you may be lucky enough to spot this elusive bird!

Day 5. Monteverde

Begin your day at a cloud forest reserve in the heart of Monteverde. Venture into an enchanting, colourful world as you explore one of the world’s largest butterfly gardens with more than 30 species of tropical butterflies. Next, be dazzled in a nearby gallery containing more than 100 beautiful hummingbirds. Embark on a guided walking tour above the forest floor on a leisurely paced “Hanging Bridges” tour and get a different perspective on the cloud forest’s unique ecosystem, its mammals, birds, plants and flora. If you are feeling adventurous you may take an optional canopy zip-line tour. This evening, meet a local who will discuss fascinating facts regarding the migratory birds that flock to Costa Rica every year.

Day 6. Monteverde – Lake Arenal Cruise – Arenal

Discover the importance of conservation in Costa Rica during a visit to a tree nursery and learn about Monteverde’s reforestation efforts of indigenous trees. Traverse through the beautiful mountainous landscapes of Monteverde to Arenal, where breathtaking views of the volcano await you. Be surrounded by tranquillity on a delightful cruise on Lake Arenal, the largest and most important lake in Costa Rica. Later, check in for a 2-night stay at a typical lodge overlooking the majestic Arenal Volcano which has been generating lava for the past 30 years. Before dinner, enjoy a cooking demonstration and learn how native, exotic vegetables and plants contribute to the unique flavours of Costa Rican cuisine.

Day 7. Arenal – Cano Negro – Arenal

Of all Costa Rica’s nature preserves, the remote 20,000 acres of Cano Negro are home to the largest viewable selection of indigenous wildlife. Embark on a Cano Negro guided riverboat trip in a panga (covered canoe), stopping along the way to observe and photograph the wildlife that surround you which may include crocodiles, river otters, sloths, river turtles, exotic birds and rare butterflies — all known to live in the area. The Arenal Volcano area is also known as the land of spas and hot springs. Later in the day you will have an opportunity to attain a state of complete relaxation with an optional visit to one of the finest spas in the region.

Day 8. Arenal – Zarcero – Grecia – National Theatre – San Jose

Discover the charming town of Zarcero and visit its well-known whimsical topiary garden. Continue to the small, picturesque town of Grecia to see the unusual metal church constructed of brick-red metal panes; walk the beautifully landscaped central park; or shop at the traditional local market. Later, visit San Jose’s colourful Plaza de Cultura and the National Theatre, a magnificent building of post-Baroque splendour. This evening enjoy a wonderful farewell dinner.

Day 2. San Jose – Tortuguero National Park

Begin the day surrounded by dormant volcanos and crater lakes as you journey through Braulio Carrillo National Park en route to the Caribbean lowlands. Along the way, take in the mountain vistas and Caribbean-style villages. Later, discover the natural wonders of the rainforest of Tortuguero National Park as you cruise the rivers and canals with your guide. Enjoy a 2-night stay at your eco-lodge surrounded by the beauty of a tropical forest and an array of wildlife. Learn more about your surroundings with a visit to the world’s first Green Turtle Research Station. Discover how to protect the turtle’s nesting habitat and eggs. Day 3. Tortuguero National Park

Set out on an early morning bird-watching excursion* that explores the variety of local species and migratory birds that flock to this area. Find yourself surrounded by wildlife as you embark on a nature cruise through the national park – keep an eye out for howler monkeys, sloths, toucans and caimans, as well as exotic flora. Tortuguero National Park, a study in rainforest, freshwater and marine biology, protects over 350 species of birds and mammals. Savour time to explore and seek out green macaws; 57 species of amphibians; 111 species of reptiles; and 60 mammal species, including 13 of Costa Rica’s endangered animals including jaguars, tapirs, ocelots, cougars, river otters and manatees.

Day 4. Tortuguero National Park – Sarapiquí – Tenorio Volcano

Embark on a leisurely boat ride to the mainland as you travel to the fascinating Sarapiquí region. Afterwards, the choice is yours: visit a cacao plantation to discover the history and continuing importance of cacao to Central America’s economy or stop at a pineapple plantation to learn about the different varieties of this exotic fruit. Observe the production process and sample the delicious finished product. Next, continue to your resort, tucked away in the rainforest at the foot of the Tenorio Volcano.

Day 5. Tenorio Volcano – River Rafting – Tenorio Volcano

This morning, take an exhilarating river rafting adventure on the Tenorio and Corobici rivers where you’ll experience breathtaking views. Later, meet some Tico artisans as you discover the world of the craft-brewing culture in Costa Rica on the shores of Lake Arenal.

Day 6. Tenorio Volcano – Maleku Indigenous Village – Tenorio Volcano

This morning, set out on a cultural adventure in a Maleku indigenous village. Interact with one of the last indigenous tribes of this region and learn about how they live. Sit down for lunch with these local people before heading back to your resort. This afternoon, enjoy some free time or perhaps take an optional hike out to the spectacular light blue waters of the Rio Celeste waterfalls.

Day 7. Tenorio Volcano – Manuel Antonio National Park

Travel the beautiful chequered landscape of Costa Rica to the Pacific Coast, arriving at the world-famous Manuel Antonio National Park. After soaking up the sweeping views and stopping at a seaside village, experience the spice of life at the Villa Vanilla organic spice farm. Learn about bio-dynamic vanilla production and other spices. Later, take in the sunset from your hotel overlooking Manuel Antonio National Park and the Pacific Ocean.

Day 8. Manuel Antonio National Park

Travel just minutes down the road to explore spectacular Manuel Antonio National Park, known for its pristine beaches and primary forest. Spend the morning leisurely walking the forest trails in search of native inhabitants like the three-toed sloth, agoutis, squirrel monkeys and iguanas. Take a swim in the inviting blue waters of its beaches. Relax for the remainder of the day by the pool and absorb the natural beauty of your surroundings. If you’re looking for an adventure, perhaps you’ll choose an optional zip-line tour in the afternoon or an optional night-time nature reserve walk.

Day 9. Manuel Antonio National Park – Villa Blanca Cloud Forest – San Ramón

Say goodbye to the coast and travel north to the Villa Blanca Cloud Forest, originally owned by the former president of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Carazo Odio. En route, meet a local family at their coffee farm. Discover this organic coffee plantation and the natural growing methods used to make some of the best coffee in the world. Continue to the city of San Ramon – referred to as “The City of Presidents & Poets” – for a tour. Then, settle into your hotel set in the Los Angeles Private Biological Reserve, and enjoy the amazing view from your individual casitas.

Day 10. Villa Blanca Cloud Forest

Wake up to a cool breeze and spectacular views. Prepare to try your hand at organic farming. Local guides will take you on an immersive nature reserve tour: explore sustainable agriculture, farming techniques, and greenhouse cultivation. Get a taste of what they grow during a lunch created with ingredients grown on the farm. The afternoon is yours to relax and take in the natural beauty that surrounds you.
